The island Šipan is the largest island of the Elaphit archipelago on which many historical monuments are located. 

The largest village in the Southwest of the island is named Šipanska Luka.

The island is situated about 17 km north-west of Dubrovnik. In the interior of the island there are yet some little villages. 

In Šipanska Luka remains of a Roman Villa Rustica were found.
